The oil spill

 The oil spill

Introduction

Oil spills often happen by accident, when people make mistakes or equipment breaks. Other causes include natural disasters or intentional acts. Oil spills have significant environmental and economic impacts.

Oil spills can also affect human health. These effects may depend on the type and location of the oil spill (on land, in a river, or in the sea). Other factors include the type of exposure and the degree of exposure. Those who clean up spills are most at risk. Problems can include skin and eye irritation, nerve and breathing problems, and stress. Little is known about the long-term effects of these spills.

What happens to the environment

Its direct effect is that it creates a film on the surface of the sea that prevents light from entering the water. In marine ecosystems, there are many different species, such as algae, that need light for photosynthesis. If this does not happen, many of them may die.

Severe contamination then occurs, which can even lead to the death of many organisms, since the contaminants in crude oil compounds are highly toxic.

In the long term, spills cause years of disruption to the reproductive and feeding systems of all organisms in marine ecosystems.
